Recycling Construction and Demolition Residues in Clay Bricks

In recent years, the management of construction and demolition residues (CDRs) has become a major challenge for industry due to increasing volume waste produced its associated environmental impact. The aim this article is assess effect fine-grained fractions (<0.125 mm–0.6–0.125 mm) residues, obtained by industrial sorting in CDR processing plant Rovigo (Italy), on technological behavior technical performance clay bricks. Simulating brickmaking process laboratory scale, it was appraised whether additions determined any change main properties both fired unfired bricks, taking CDR-free brick body as reference. results indicated that use technologically feasible. It possible obtain, through proper crushing operations, grain-sized with quite homogenous chemical mineralogical composition. did affect compositional properties, porosity water absorption Nevertheless, characterization residual-added semi-finished products highlighted their good mechanical which allowed them provide performances similar those standard bricks manufactured raw natural materials.
